Introduction to the Patanjali Yoga Sutra; the Yogi’s Road Map
Classically, the Yoga practitioner in the East is well equipped with the definitive guide to the Yogic process, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra. In the West, we are left to negotiate and navigate our ways with little or no advice. The Yoga Sutra are considered to be the definitive text for Yoga and a map of the Yogic experience. Revealing the deeper underlying nature of our being, and how to quell our self negating tendencies, the indescribable is well described, and is indispensable in helping us to proceed with confidence, clarity and ultimately, effectiveness.
Friday morning Asana, 2.5 hours
DRDHAH BHUMIH; Firmly Grounded: Standing & Balancing Postures
Patanjali encourages yoga aspirants to develop a practice that is steadfast, and firmly grounded. We will investigate standing and balancing postures as a means to systematically approach to stabilize our connection to the Earth with the intent of accessing greater freedom within the self. (AND THE FREEDOM OF THE SPINE THAT ENSUES.) Diagnostic as well as curative, these postures are the vehicle for developing
Friday evening, 2 hours:
Living passionately with out getting burned!
Yoga Psychology & the Patanjali Yoga Sutra II
In this next conversation, we will continue to spin the wonderful stories
of the Yoga Sutra, and to discover how to uncover the authentic,
non conformist self with in. Patanjali advises the Yoga aspirant that it
is not a matter of IF, but WHEN the obstacles arise, and grants us
further guidance on how to negotiate our way on this path,
as so eloquently described by Rumi, that is SO beautiful and SO hard.
As the Sutra unfold, Patanjali reveals how to identify the obstacles we
are sure to encounter, how to dissolve them, and the means to find freedom
in a world of confusion
Saturday morning Asana, 2.5 hours:
Fearless Love: Backbending into Freedom
Patanjali advises us to go forth on the Yogic path with abhyasa and vairagya—
effort and release, the two wings of freedom. Backbends are the most challenging,
and for some of us, the most terrifying of postures. We will explore the areas
necessary for freedom, release and building confidence in a clear and systematic
approach that is compression free.
Sunday morning Asana, 2.5 hours:
Suryanamaskar C: A Meditation on the Joy within Vishoka va Jyotishmati
Standing and balancing postures linked with Vinyasa cultivate a stable foundation in our ability to set clear roots and provide a firm grounded basis for the wellspring of Joy. The unpredictability of Surya Namaskara C keeps the experience fun, and helps us connect to light heartedness in our heart’s center.

Maya Yoga 200-Hour Teacher Training
Devotion to yoga and the desire to share with and give back to the world are what motivate the teaching of Maya Yoga with Eddie Modestini and Nicki Doane. Maya Yoga is the “unsystem” system of yoga. Maya means “illusion” in Sanskrit so it is never what you think it is! Eddie and Nicki have developed their approach to yoga that is intent on serving the individual student. Yoga is spirit in action, and as Eddie and Nicki teach, they inspire people to find a place of spirit inside themselves, recognizing the profound connection between the self and spirit. They strive to teach each student that yoga is about being fully present in the moment and discovering that we are truly all One. One Love. One People. One Heart. One Destination - Our Higher Self.
